Space Skills and Supplier Summit in Tyneside - 1 March
Lockheed Martin is hosting a space skills and supply chain summit in Tyneside on 1 March. It has ambitious growth plans in the UK’s space sector, and is developing plans to establish a satellite manufacturing facility. The Summit will develop new partnerships with British companies and academic organisations, for national and export opportunities. It will also identify academic and skills organisations, with whom we can collaborate to support the generation of skills for a new manufacturing facility. The Summit is organised in partnership with Invest North East England, the North East Satellite Applications Centre of Excellence, Supply Chain North East, North East Space Leadership Group, and Lockheed Martin’s Team Athena partners.
Donations to Local Food Banks
Lockheed Martin UK employees chose to donate the value of their company Christmas gifts to food banks near some of our main sites. In addition to previous donations to Havant Food Bank and Helston & Lizard Food Bank, £1,000 donations were made to Gloucester Food Bank on 17 December, alongside Laurence Robertson MP, and Warminster & District Food Bank on 14 January, alongside Dr Andrew Murrison MP.
Lockheed Martin UK Receives 5% Club Gold Award
Lockheed Martin UK’s Director for Human Resources, Alice Mallen, and our Early Careers and Learning Lead, Andrea Labrum, collected a Gold Award from the 5% Club. LMUK participated in the first year of the 5% Club’s Employer Recognition scheme, and was one of 58 companies that met the ‘Gold Standard’, following an audit. The Gold Standard recognises those employers who exceed the aspiration to have 5% of their workforce in “earn and learn” schemes, including Apprenticeships, Graduate Schemes, and Sponsored Students. Lockheed Martin UK has been a patron of the 5% Club since 2014.
Contract to Upgrade Army's Command & Control Capability
Lockheed Martin UK has been awarded a contract to upgrade the British Army’s Land Environment Air Picture Provision (LEAPP) Command, Control, and Battlespace Management capability. The SkyKeeper system’s in-service date has been extended to 2029. It currently enables ground based air defence (GBAD), and was deployed at the G7 2021 Summit in Cornwall and the COP26 Summit in Glasgow. The system will now be upgraded to enable Multi-Domain Integration, and form a key part of Defence’s Digital Backbone. It also forms the Command and Control core for Lockheed Martin’s global GBAD solutions, and some of its Directed Energy Weapon programmes.
